Htoo Foundation and Air Bagan Limited Co-sponsored a four-day Asia-Pacific
\nConference for the Elderly which was held at Sedona Hotel in Yangon from 8 May to
\n11 May 2012. The conference was attended by high-profile representatives from 29
\ncountries and responsible persons from various social societies. Out of the 60 million
\npeople of Myanmar at present, there are about 5.64 million who are over 60 years of
\nage.The ratio of people over 60 years of age to the total population in myanmar was
\n8.7% in 2007,9.1% in 2010 and has increased to more than 9.1% in 2012.It is
\nestimated that the ratio will rise to over 20% by 2050.It is learnt from the Ministry of
\nsocial Welfare,Relief and Resettlement that 500,000 elderly persons,i.e, 10% of people
\nabove 60 years of age in Myanmar,are in need of relief aid.<\/p>\n
Policies regarding the elderly,methodology and plans for providing care for elderly
\nworldwide were discussed at the conference. Htoo Foundation sponsered this
\nconference as a new step towards proving relief aid and healthcare to the elderly as it
\nhas been tendering aid to our citizens across the country regardless of race or religion.
