With the support of Htoo
\nFoundation, the Myanmar Physically Handicapped Association conducted a Down-
\nsyndrome Technical Support Training course in Mawlamyaing, Mon State, from 27 to 29
\nAugust 2011. The three-day training course was attended by members of the Myanmar
\nPhysically Handicapped Association, personnel from Htoo Foundation, parents of the
\ndisabled children and training instructors. Handicraft skills were taught to the trainees and
\nmethods of disseminating the skills to children affected by Down-syndrome, ways of
\nutilizing knowledge with respect to Down-syndrome in society and understanding new
\noutlooks regarding physical disorder.<\/p>\n
Common hindrances faced by
\ninvalid children were discussed among the trainees and training instructors to find ways of
\nproviding moral encouragement to the effected children. Activities such as drawing,
\ncolouring, singing, physical exercise, paper folding were conducted for the children and
\ndiscussions with parents on finding ways to help solve the setbacks faced by children
\naffected by Down-syndrome were also held. The training is believed to bring about better
\nways to help handicapped children. Moreover, it will help find ways to assist in the mental
\ndevelopment of the children, and to generate an opportunity to put on sale handicrafts
